The Cultural Revolution in the People’s Republic of China was a time of national social and political struggle between the classes. The Cultural Revolution was founded by Mao Ze-Dong on May 16, 1966. He said that liberal capitalist elements were dominating the party and insisted that they needed to be removed by remolding the thoughts and actions of the Chinese youth, who formed Commmunist "Red Guard" groups around the country. Mao believed that if he made the youth of china believe in Communism, he could control the next generation, and practically the entire future of China. The Red Guards were high school and college students that were given power. They enforced the campaign to eliminate the things Mao considered "fourolds", or Anti-Communist, conducted searches, and punished people that had seemingly capitalist attire.
